Alcohol Clearance Time Calculator

Estimate how long it takes for alcohol to leave your system based on body weight, sex, drink volume and ABV. Uses the Widmark formula.

Pure ethanol19.73 g
Estimated BAC0.41 ‰ (0.04%)
Time to fully sober (0‰)2h 46m
Estimation based on the Widmark formula. Actual metabolism varies significantly by individual, food intake, and health. Do not use to determine fitness to drive.

How to Estimate Alcohol Clearance Time

  1. Enter your body weight in kilograms.
  2. Select sex (affects the Widmark distribution factor).
  3. Enter the drink amount in ml (or grams of pure alcohol).
  4. Enter the alcohol strength (% ABV).
  5. Read your estimated BAC and sobering time.

Widmark BAC ≈ alcohol_grams / (weight_kg · r), where r = 0.68 (male) or 0.55 (female). Elimination rate ≈ 0.15 ‰ per hour.

Preguntas Frecuentes

How accurate is this calculation?
The Widmark formula is a first-order estimate. Actual metabolism varies with food intake, liver function, genetics, hydration and body composition. Never use this calculator to decide whether to drive.
Why does sex matter?
Men and women distribute alcohol differently through body water. The Widmark factor r reflects this: ~0.68 for men, ~0.55 for women.
What is the 0.5 ‰ limit?
Many European countries use 0.5 g/L (0.5 ‰) as the maximum blood alcohol for driving. Some jurisdictions use 0.2 ‰, 0.3 ‰ or 0.8 ‰. Check your local law.
Is elimination really linear?
Roughly yes. The average adult body eliminates about 0.15 ‰ per hour (≈ 0.017% per hour). Heavy drinkers may eliminate slightly faster.
