Stress-Strain Calculator
Calculate stress or strain using Hooke's Law: σ = E × ε. Enter one value and the elastic modulus to find the other.
How to Use the Stress-Strain Calculator
- Enter stress (MPa) and set strain to 0 — strain will be calculated.
- Or enter strain and set stress to 0 — stress will be calculated.
- Enter Young's modulus E in GPa and click Calculate.
使用场景
- •Calculating beam and shaft deflection under load.
- •Finding stress from known displacements.
- •Mechanics of materials coursework problems.
公式
σ = E × ε, where σ is normal stress (MPa), E is Young's modulus (GPa), ε is strain (dimensionless). Strain < 0.002 indicates elastic behaviour.
常见问题
What is Hooke's Law?
Hooke's Law describes the linear relationship between stress and strain in the elastic region: σ = E × ε. It applies up to the yield point.
What is Young's modulus?
Young's modulus E is a measure of material stiffness. Steel: ~200 GPa, aluminium: ~69 GPa, bone: ~17 GPa.
What is the difference between elastic and plastic deformation?
Elastic deformation is reversible — the material returns to its original shape. Plastic deformation is permanent and occurs above the yield point.
