Formula: Corrected Na (mEq/L) = Measured Na + 1.6 × ((glucose − 100) / 100). Normal sodium: 135–145 mEq/L.
常见问题
Why does hyperglycemia affect sodium?
High glucose increases extracellular osmolarity, drawing water out of cells and diluting serum sodium. The measured sodium is falsely low. The correction estimates what sodium would be at normal glucose.
Is there an alternative correction factor?
Some clinicians use 2.4 mEq/L per 100 mg/dL glucose rise (Hillier formula) for severe hyperglycemia (> 400 mg/dL). The standard 1.6 factor is based on Katz (1973) and is most widely taught.
