Tinetti Balance & Gait Assessment
Calculate the Tinetti Performance-Oriented Mobility Assessment (POMA) score to assess fall risk in elderly patients.
How to Use the Tinetti Balance Calculator
- Complete the Tinetti balance subscale assessment (0–16 points).
- Complete the Tinetti gait subscale assessment (0–12 points).
- Enter both subscale scores.
- Click Calculate to see total score and fall risk category.
Casos de Uso
- •Fall risk screening in geriatric and rehabilitation settings.
- •Monitoring balance and gait improvements with physical therapy.
- •Guiding assistive device prescription and fall prevention interventions.
Fórmula
Tinetti Total = Balance score (0–16) + Gait score (0–12). Max = 28. Risk: < 19 high, 19–24 moderate, > 24 low fall risk.
Perguntas Frequentes
What is the Tinetti assessment?
The Tinetti Performance-Oriented Mobility Assessment (POMA) evaluates balance (9 items, 16 points) and gait (7 items, 12 points) in older adults. It was developed by Dr. Mary Tinetti in 1986 and is widely used to predict fall risk.
How is the assessment performed?
Balance items include sitting balance, arising from chair, standing balance, balance with eyes closed, balance with turning, and sitting down. Gait items evaluate initiation, step length/height, symmetry, continuity, path, trunk sway, and walking stance.
