What is the frost line?
The frost line is the maximum depth at which the ground freezes in winter. Foundations must go below it.
What are the climate zones?
Zone 1: tropical (no frost). Zone 3: temperate. Zone 6: subarctic (deep frost >1.5 m).
Why add 0.3 m to frost depth?
A safety margin of 300 mm is added to the frost depth to ensure the foundation base is fully below the frost line.
