What is the ISTH DIC score?
The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) DIC score is used to diagnose overt disseminated intravascular coagulation. It uses four laboratory parameters: platelet count, D-dimer/fibrin degradation products, prothrombin time, and fibrinogen.
How is the DIC score interpreted?
Score ≥5: Overt DIC — compatible with DIC diagnosis; repeat daily. Score <5: Non-overt DIC — may be pre-DIC state; repeat within 1–2 days if clinically suspected.
