A standard 5 kg bundle typically lasts 1–2 hours depending on fire size and wood type. Hardwood burns longer than softwood.
Why does hardwood use less wood by weight?
Hardwood is denser and burns more slowly and hotly than softwood, so you need less by weight to achieve the same burn time.
How is BTU output calculated?
Hardwood produces about 8,000 BTU/kg and softwood about 6,000 BTU/kg. Total BTU = wood weight × BTU per kg.
