Pottery Glaze Calculator
Calculate surface area, glaze volume needed, and dry glaze weight for pottery pieces.
How to Use the Pottery Glaze Calculator
- Enter piece height and diameter in cm.
- Enter glaze coverage rate (default 15 mL/100cm²).
- Click Calculate for surface area, glaze volume, and dry weight.
Cas d'utilisation
- •Studio pottery production.
- •Glaze batch preparation.
- •Estimating glaze inventory needs.
Formule
Formula: Surface Area = 2πrh + πr² (cylinder). Glaze = area / 100 × coverage(mL/100cm²). Dry weight = volume × 1.4.
Questions fréquemment posées
How much glaze coverage is typical?
Standard brushing glazes need 15–20 mL per 100 cm². Dipping glazes require less (8–12 mL) due to more even application.
Why does glaze amount matter?
Too little glaze causes thin, uneven color. Too much can cause drips and kiln damage. Consistent coverage is key to reproducible results.
Does this work for non-cylindrical pieces?
The calculator uses a cylinder approximation. For complex forms, estimate total surface area using measurements of individual sections.
