Tolerance Stackup Calculator
Calculate worst-case arithmetic and RSS tolerance stackup for up to five tolerances in a mechanical assembly.
How to Use the Tolerance Stackup Calculator
- Enter up to five individual tolerances (e.g. ±0.05 mm → enter 0.05).
- Click Calculate to see both the arithmetic and RSS stackup.
- Use RSS for statistical estimates and arithmetic for worst-case guarantees.
Anwendungsfälle
- •Mechanical assembly fit analysis.
- •GD&T tolerance chain calculations.
- •Manufacturing process capability studies.
Formel
Arithmetic: T_total = t₁ + t₂ + ... + tₙ. RSS (Root Sum Square): T_rss = √(t₁² + t₂² + ... + tₙ²). RSS gives a statistically realistic estimate; arithmetic gives the absolute worst case.
Häufig gestellte Fragen
What is tolerance stackup?
Tolerance stackup is the accumulation of dimensional tolerances in an assembly. It determines whether parts will fit together correctly at the extremes of their allowed variation.
When should I use RSS instead of arithmetic stackup?
Use RSS when you have many parts produced in volume and statistical methods are appropriate. Use arithmetic stackup for safety-critical assemblies where the worst case must always be met.
Is this calculator free?
