What is HbA1c?
HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin) measures your average blood sugar over the past 2-3 months. It shows the percentage of hemoglobin proteins coated with sugar.
What is a normal A1C level?
Below 5.7% is normal. Between 5.7% and 6.4% indicates prediabetes. 6.5% or higher indicates diabetes.
How often should A1C be tested?
People without diabetes should test every 3 years after age 45. With prediabetes, every 1-2 years. With diabetes, every 3-6 months.
