OhMyCalc

Environmental Engineering Dilution Calculator

Compute the final pollutant concentration after mixing two air or water streams with different concentrations and volumes, and check it against a reference limit.

How to Use the Environmental Engineering Dilution Calculator

  1. Enter concentration and volume of stream 1.
  2. Enter concentration and volume of stream 2.
  3. Click Calculate to see the final concentration and MPC status.

Formula

C_final = (C₁·V₁ + C₂·V₂) / (V₁ + V₂). Default reference limit (MPC / PDK) = 1 mg/m³.

Domande Frequenti

What is MPC (PDK)?
Maximum permissible concentration — a regulatory limit for pollutants in air, water or soil. This calculator uses a placeholder 1 mg/m³; substitute the actual limit for your pollutant from GN 2.1.6 / EPA tables.
Does this assume ideal mixing?
Yes. It is a simple mass-balance and ignores reaction, settling, or stratification. For reactive or non-ideal streams use a CFD or plug-flow model.
