Trees for CO₂ Compensation Calculator
Estimate how many trees are needed to absorb a given annual CO₂ footprint, and the corresponding planted area.
How to Use the Trees for CO₂ Compensation Calculator
- Enter your annual CO₂ footprint in tonnes.
- Enter estimated per-tree absorption (default 22 kg/year).
- Click Calculate to see number of trees and planted area.
Cas d'utilisation
- •Personal carbon footprint offsetting.
- •Corporate ESG planning.
- •Educational sustainability examples.
Formule
Trees = CO₂ (kg) / tree absorption (kg per year). Area ≈ trees / 2500 (density of ~2500 trees/ha).
Questions fréquemment posées
What absorption rate should I use?
A mature temperate tree absorbs 20–50 kg CO₂/year on average. Use 22 kg for a conservative estimate.
How long until a tree reaches that rate?
Young trees absorb little. Full sequestration is reached after ~20 years. Compensation schemes assume lifecycle averaging.
Is tree planting enough for carbon neutrality?
It is one component. Reducing emissions at source is always more effective than compensation.
