OhMyCalc

Milk Solids & Fat Yield Calculator

Compute fat, protein and solids-not-fat yields from milk volume, fat percentage and protein percentage — the backbone of dairy payment schemes.

How to Use the Milk Solids & Fat Yield Calculator

  1. Enter milk volume in litres.
  2. Enter fat and protein percentages from the lab report.
  3. Click Calculate.

Formule

Fat (kg) = volume × fat% / 100. Protein (kg) = volume × protein% / 100. SNF (kg) ≈ volume × 0.088 (bulk dairy average).

Questions fréquemment posées

Why 0.088 for SNF?
8.8% solids-not-fat is the global bulk-milk average from Jersey and Holstein herds. Breed, lactation stage and feed can shift it by ±0.3 pp.
Are these the fields dairies pay on?
Yes — most EU and North American coops pay on kg of fat and protein with a volume adjustment. This calculator gives the core numbers.
How accurate is the density assumption?
Milk density is about 1.03 kg/L, so litres and kilograms differ by ~3%. For payment-grade accuracy, weigh the tanker and use the weight as the basis.
