Pure Tone Average (PTA) Calculator
Compute the Pure Tone Average from audiometric thresholds at 500 Hz, 1 kHz and 2 kHz, and classify hearing loss severity.
How to Use the Pure Tone Average (PTA) Calculator
- Enter the threshold at 500 Hz (dB HL).
- Enter the threshold at 1 kHz.
- Enter the threshold at 2 kHz.
- Click Calculate to see PTA and severity.
Cas d'utilisation
- •Audiology clinic screening.
- •Occupational noise monitoring.
- •Teaching audiometric interpretation.
Formule
PTA = (threshold₅₀₀ + threshold₁₀₀₀ + threshold₂₀₀₀) / 3 dB. Severity: <25 normal, 25–40 mild, 41–55 moderate, 56–70 moderately severe, 71–90 severe, >90 profound.
Questions fréquemment posées
Why 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz?
These are the core speech frequencies: the three-frequency PTA correlates best with understanding conversational speech in a quiet environment.
What about 4 kHz?
Some protocols use a 4-frequency PTA (500/1000/2000/4000 Hz) to capture high-frequency noise-induced loss. Pick the formula used by your reference audiometer.
