OhMyCalc

CO₂ Tree Compensation Calculator

Estimate how many trees are needed to offset a given amount of CO₂ emissions per year from annual CO₂ volume and species-specific absorption rate.

How to Use the CO₂ Tree Compensation Calculator

  1. Enter your annual CO₂ volume in tonnes.
  2. Enter species absorption in kg per tree per year (default 22).
  3. Click Calculate.

Casos de Uso

Fórmula

trees = ⌈CO₂ (t) × 1000 / absorption (kg/tree/year)⌉. Typical mid-latitude broadleaf absorbs ≈ 22 kg CO₂ per tree per year. Forest density ≈ 2500 trees per hectare.

Preguntas Frecuentes

Why 22 kg?
It is the common field average for a mature mid-latitude broadleaf such as oak, birch or maple. Young saplings absorb much less (3–6 kg); fast-growing pine plantations can exceed 30 kg.
What does the area mean?
It is a back-of-envelope planting area at 2500 trees per hectare (2×2 m spacing). Real reforestation projects vary from 1000 to 4000 trees/ha depending on species and goals.
