Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a clinical tool?
No — this calculator is an educational aggregator of pre-rated subtotals. A real HCR-20 assessment must be completed by a trained forensic clinician using the full manual.
Why three subtotals?
HCR-20 version 3 groups 20 items into Historical (past), Clinical (current) and Risk management (future) domains, each scored 0/1/2.
Are cut-offs fixed?
The original scheme is a clinical judgement, not a strict cut-off. The low/moderate/high bands here are a teaching simplification.
