Social Impact Theory Calculator (Latané)
Compute social impact from strength, immediacy and number of sources using Bibb Latané\u2019s social impact theory with diminishing returns (t = 1/2).
How to Use the Social Impact Theory Calculator (Latané)
- Rate source strength from 0 to 10.
- Rate immediacy (physical / temporal proximity) 0 to 10.
- Enter the number of sources.
- Click Calculate.
Anwendungsfälle
- •Teaching social psychology.
- •Modelling conformity in small groups.
- •Designing peer-pressure experiments.
Formel
Impact = f(S, I, N) = S × I × N^t, with t = 1/2 (a doubling of sources raises impact by √2 ≈ 1.41, not 2).
Häufig gestellte Fragen
What does "strength" mean?
Latané defined it as the importance, power, authority, or expertise of the source relative to the target. Use a 0–10 scale where 10 is a very authoritative source.
Why t = 1/2?
Empirical studies on conformity, compliance and bystander intervention showed the marginal impact of each extra source diminishes. A square-root relationship fit the data better than linear aggregation.
