Forging Press Force Calculator
Estimate the forging press force for an upset disc from the workpiece yield stress, projected area, friction coefficient and geometry (Siebel formula).
How to Use the Forging Press Force Calculator
- Enter the hot flow stress in MPa.
- Enter the projected area.
- Enter the friction coefficient, diameter and height.
- Click Calculate.
حالات الاستخدام
- •Sizing forging presses.
- •Estimating whether an existing press can handle a new part.
- •Teaching metal-forming mechanics.
الصيغة
F = σ_y · A · (1 + μ · d / (3 · h)), the Siebel/Avitzur upsetting formula. σ_y is the flow stress at the forging temperature.
الأسئلة الشائعة
Which stress should I use?
Use the hot flow stress at forging temperature, not the cold yield stress. For carbon steel at 1200 °C it drops to about 50–100 MPa.
Typical μ values?
Dry dies 0.30–0.45, graphite lubrication 0.10–0.15, glass lubrication for high-temperature nickel alloys 0.05–0.10.
What is "projected area"?
The area of the workpiece seen from the direction of the press stroke — usually π/4 · d² for a cylinder at the end of the stroke.
